As part of our ESG initiatives, TRIGO is focusing on optimizing and rationalizing car use, aligning with our commitment to environmental respect.

With a commitment to fostering sustainability and efficiency, TRIGO Novo Mesto Slovenia has implemented bicycle commuting initiatives for our administrative staff, including those in accounting, site management, and human resources.

TRIGO has provided three bicycles for staff use, initially intended for mail retrieval at the previous location. This idea, promoted by our Country Manager, was driven by the recognition of the short distances involved and was originally made to facilitate the daily retrieval of TRIGO mail from the nearby post office, which is located close to our original headquarters.

The decision to move the office and implement the bicycle commuting initiative was influenced by several factors, as explained by Robert Kastelic, Country Quality and Site Manager at TRIGO Slovenia.

“The cost of office space outside the town is lower, the cost savings of using a bike versus a car are substantial, and the health benefits are significant.”

With our relocation outside the center of Novo Mesto, closer to the interstate entrance, daily traffic congestion when traveling to other towns in Slovenia was successfully circumvented.

Our proximity to a dedicated cycling road running parallel to the local car road has allowed our staff, particularly our administrative team, to commute swiftly and seamlessly. This not only saves time but also reduces our carbon footprint, contributing positively to environmental sustainability.

Moreover, the strategic location near the bicycle road has enabled additional benefits beyond mail retrieval. During the summer months, our staff members use bicycles to commute to nearby restaurants, covering a few kilometers with ease.

Besides the cost benefits, the countryside is beautiful, with the bicycle road running alongside the river Krka and near the Otočec Castle, providing a relaxing and scenic commute. There is also a golf course nearby, adding to the appeal of the location.

Various employees commute by personal bikes. Robert Kastelic, Country Quality and Site Manager, mentioned commuting 20 km daily, enjoying the health benefits and the scenic route along the river and castle. He noted feeling more relaxed and dynamic upon arriving at work by bicycle.

We are proud to note that even our Country Manager, Mr. Mirsad, occasionally commutes from his home in Croatia using an electric bicycle, highlighting our commitment to leveraging sustainable transportation options.

By leveraging the country’s infrastructure and promoting bicycle commuting, TRIGO Novo Mesto headquarters continues to prioritize efficiency, sustainability, and employee well-being.

Robert Kastelic explains, “In Slovenia, the past decade has seen a significant increase in bicycle use and bike road infrastructure, reflecting a shift in public mindset. This change is crucial as climate warnings intensify.”

TRIGO’s initiatives are part of a broader effort to address environmental issues and promote healthier lifestyles for employees. By encouraging sustainable transportation options, we not only reduce our carbon footprint but also foster a healthier, more dynamic workforce. As we continue to innovate and adapt, TRIGO remains dedicated to creating a sustainable future for both our company and the communities we serve.
