CONTEXT:

German automotive OEM have specific quality requirements, especially most of them require to apply VDA volumes, which are different from AIAG manuals (except FMEA). In addition to these VDA volumes, some German OEM have specific requirements which are verified by the IATF auditors. 

You've just won a contract with a German automotive customer (OEM or tier 1) and you would like to understand their specific quality requirements, in particularly the VDA manuals referenced in their CSR, in comparison with AIAG manuals. 

This training course will give you an overview of the basic quality requirements of German automotive OEM, in order to meet their expectations. 
 

OBJECTIVES:

  • Discover the German automotive industry specific quality requirements about : 
  • project management and validation according to MLA, PPA (VDA2). 
  • AIAG-VDA FMEA : specific requirements of BMW concerning the AIAG-VDA manual. 
  • Special characteristics. 
  • measurement and inspection processes according to VDA 5, and advantages compared to MSA of AIAG. 
  • SPC according to VDA4. 
  • 8D and Field Failure Analysis. 
  • VDA 1 about Archiving documents & records 
  • Identify the gap with these specific requirements. 
  • Define an action plan to comply with these specific requirements. 
     

PREREQUISITES: 

Knowledge of quality management principles in the automotive industry, as well as the AIAG core tools is an advantage. 
 

SPECIFIC OPERATING CONDITIONS FOR REMOTE SESSIONS:

  • Have a PC with a microphone, a webcam and, if possible, a headset for greater comfort. Note: background screens are available on Zoom or Teams to blur or hide the rear view.
  • Have a good Internet connection, to be tested before the session.
  • Be installed in a quiet, isolated place ; set yourself to “unavailable” status on Teams ; close your email access, and mute your phone, so as not to be disturbed during the session.
  • Participants from the same organization should not be grouped together in the same room, but each at his/ her own desk, to avoid any side discussions during the session. Virtual sub-groups will be specially created for the exercises, which will also enable mixed groups. 
  • Remote qualification/certification exams must be taken with camera and microphone open. We may also need to check that you are alone in the room.
  • Please connect 5 minutes before the start of the session.
     

TRAINING METHOD:

At the end of each module, a synthesis is made by the participants who self-assess their level of knowledge of the key points studied. 

A final summary is made at the end of the training to highlight the main key points identified by the participants, and their action plan for upgrading.

  1. Introduction: Presentation of the VDA manuals compared to AIAG manuals 
  2. The blue gold book “maturity level assurance for new parts” : ABC risk assessment, different milestones and associated maturity assessment 
  3. The red book VDA 2 “Production process & product approval (PPA)”:  agreement between customer and supplier, « trigger matrix » to control changes, comparison with the AIAG PPAP 
  4. FMEA AIAG-VDA : key points, focus on BMW specific requirements. 
  5. The blue gold book “A process description covering special characteristics (SC)”  
  6. The red book VDA 5 “capability of measurement processes”:  causes of variation in measurement results, uncertainties of measurement, QMS and QMP index 
  7. The red book “8D” 
  8. The blue gold book “Field failure analysis”: warranty return parts analysis process, “NTF No Trouble Found”. 
  9. Archiving documents & records : The VDA 1 manual
