TM124 – Functional Analysis

TM124 – Functional Analysis

Generic
Onsite, Remote session
1
day(s)

NUMBER OF PARTICIPANTS:

Minimum: 4 Maximum: 12

LANGUAGES:

Training materials: English / French
Trainers: 25+ spoken languages by TRIGO trainers all over the world

RECOMMENDED FOR:

Project manager.

Development engineer and technician, design office, project quality.

Anyone involved in product design.

CONTEXT:

Functional analysis is a method used in product design and development for analyzing and developing a function structure, which is an abstract model of the new product.

By understanding the functions and their mutual relations for each life cycle stages, designers can create simpler and more competitive products than existing one

OBJECTIVES:

  • Understand the product life cycle stages
  • At each life cycle stage, know how to identify and value the external product functions: main and secondary functions, constraint functions
  • Based on a block diagram, know how to identify and value the internal product functions: technical and flow functions

PREREQUISITES:

No prerequisite.

SPECIFIC OPERATING CONDITIONS FOR REMOTE SESSIONS:

  • Have a PC with a microphone, a webcam and, if possible, a headset for greater comfort. Note: background screens are available on Zoom or Teams to blur or hide the rear view.
  • Have a good Internet connection, to be tested before the session.
  • Be installed in a quiet, isolated place; set yourself to “unavailable” status on Teams; close your email access, and mute your phone, so as not to be disturbed during the session.
  • Participants from the same organization should not be grouped together in the same room, but each at his/ her own desk, to avoid any side discussions during the session. Virtual sub-groups will be specially created for the exercises, which will also enable mixed groups.
  • Remote qualification/certification exams must be taken with camera and microphone open. We may also need to check that you are alone in the room.
  • Please connect 5 minutes before the start of the session.

COURSE PROGRAM:

  1. The product need analysis: the horned beast from the APTE® method
  2. The life situations stages
  3. The market needs at each life situation stage, the functional specifications/requirements
  4. Identification of external functions with the Octopuss diagram from the APTE® method: main or secondary functions and constraint functions
  5. Naming, valuing, priotizing the external functions
  6. Identifying the subfunctions with a FAST diagram (function analysis system technique)
  7. Identification of internal functions based on the functional block diagram: technical and flow functions
  8. Naming and valuing internal functions

EVALUATION METHOD:

Knowledge test (Multi Choice Questions)

SKILLS VALIDATION:

Training qualification certificate

TRAINING MATERIALS:

Attendee file containing the training materials and practical exercises. Training materials in digital format are made available to trainees a few days before the course.
