CONTEXT:

Among the fundamental tools of process control, the study of capabilities is at the forefront.

These studies are widely demanded by customers, particularly in the automotive industry, to ensure that before series production begins, suppliers will be able to manufacture compliant products using stable machines and processes with low variations.

However, although they are widely used, basic statistical concepts are often poorly understood and applied, and it's not just a question of making calculations. There are several key prerequisites to check before making a relevant assessment of the performance of your machines and processes, or those of your suppliers.

OBJECTIVES:

  • Understand the basic statistical principles.
  • Understand the prerequisites to calculate capabilities indexes.
  • Know how to conduct capability studies: conditions for carrying out the study and calculations.
  • Know how to interpret capability studies results.

PREREQUISITES:

No prerequisite.

SPECIFIC OPERATING CONDITIONS FOR REMOTE SESSIONS:

  • Have a PC with a microphone, a webcam and, if possible, a headset for greater comfort. Note: background screens are available on Zoom or Teams to blur or hide the rear view.
  • Have a good Internet connection, to be tested before the session.
  • Be installed in a quiet, isolated place; set yourself to “unavailable” status on Teams; close your email access, and mute your phone, so as not to be disturbed during the session.
  • Participants from the same organization should not be grouped together in the same room, but each at his/ her own desk, to avoid any side discussions during the session. Virtual sub-groups will be specially created for the exercises, which will also enable mixed groups.
  • Remote qualification/certification exams must be taken with camera and microphone open. We may also need to check that you are alone in the room.
  • Please connect 5 minutes before the start of the session.

COURSE PROGRAM:

The training is based on a large number of exercises to learn how to use the various statistical tools.

For in-company training, preparation prior to the course enables data to be collected with a view to developing company-specific exercise

COURSE PROGRAM:

  1. The basics of statistical concepts (mean, medium, standard deviations)
  2. The normal distribution law
  3. Preliminary capability studies: machine capabilities; operational conditions and calculations
  4. Prerequisites for the manufacturing process capability studies
  5. The process stability check with Shewhart charts with subgroups data (Xbarre, R)
  6. Short-term process capability studies: operational conditions and calculations
  7. Long-term process capability studies: operational conditions and calculations.

EVALUATION METHOD:

Knowledge test (Multi Choice Questions)

SKILLS VALIDATION:

Training qualification certificate

TRAINING MATERIALS:

Attendee file containing the training materials and practical exercises. Training materials in digital format are made available to trainees a few days before the course.

An Excel file is provided with all the pre-formatted formulas, giving you all the tools you need to easily apply the statistical concepts after the training course.
